What happens at my first consultation with Dr. Alderman?
Your consultation is 60 minutes with Dr. Alderman directly — not a coordinator or PA. She will review your medical history, discuss your goals in detail, examine the areas you’re concerned about, and explain the options available to you. A surgical plan will be outlined, including timing, recovery, and realistic outcomes. Nothing is sold or pressured at the consultation.
Is Dr. Alderman board certified? What does that mean?
Yes. Dr. Alderman is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) — the only board recognised by the American Board of Medical Specialties for plastic surgery. She is also a Director of the ABPS and Chair of its Ethics Committee, meaning she helps set and enforce the standards that define board-certified practice across the United States. Her credentials are MD, FACS, MPH.
How do I know which procedure is right for me?
That is the entire purpose of the consultation. Dr. Alderman will assess your anatomy, listen to your goals, and recommend the procedure or combination of procedures most likely to achieve what you’re describing. She does not have a preference for one procedure over another — her recommendation is based entirely on what serves your goals best.
Do I need to be a certain weight or BMI before having surgery?
Weight and BMI matter for surgical safety and outcomes. Dr. Alderman will discuss your current weight, weight history, and any planned changes at consultation. In general, it’s advisable to be within a stable weight range you intend to maintain long-term. Specific requirements depend on the procedure and your individual health profile.
Where does Dr. Alderman perform surgery?
All procedures are performed in a state-licensed surgical facility. Dr. Alderman will discuss the specific location with you at consultation based on your procedure. She personally operates on every patient — there are no hand-offs to other surgeons mid-procedure.
How long is recovery after a mommy makeover or tummy tuck?
Recovery from a mommy makeover or tummy tuck is typically 2 to 4 weeks before returning to sedentary work, and 6 to 8 weeks before resuming strenuous activity or exercise. The timeline varies by procedure combination and individual healing. Dr. Alderman provides a detailed recovery protocol before surgery so you can plan appropriately.
Will I have visible scarring?
All surgery leaves scars. Dr. Alderman’s approach is to place incisions in locations that minimise visibility — within natural skin folds, along the bikini line, or in other concealable positions. Scar maturation takes 12 to 18 months. She will discuss scar placement specific to your procedure at consultation, along with post-operative scar care.
What is the follow-up process after surgery?
North Atlanta Plastic Surgery provides a structured post-operative protocol. You will have scheduled follow-up appointments at 1 week, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, and 1 year. Between appointments, the team is available by phone and message. Every milestone is tracked; every question is answered.
Do you accept insurance for cosmetic procedures?
Cosmetic plastic surgery is typically not covered by insurance. Some procedures with a medical indication — such as rhinoplasty for breathing, blepharoplasty for vision obstruction, or breast reduction for back pain — may qualify for partial coverage. Dr. Alderman’s team will discuss coverage possibilities specific to your situation at consultation. Financing options are available.
How do I get a quote for my procedure?
A personalised quote is provided after your consultation, once Dr. Alderman has assessed your anatomy and agreed on a surgical plan. Costs depend on the specific procedures, facility, anaesthesia, and your individual requirements. We do not provide estimates before consultation because they would not be meaningful without examining you first.
How far in advance do I need to book surgery?
Dr. Alderman is typically booked several weeks to a few months in advance, depending on the procedure and time of year. If you have a target date — around school schedules, a holiday, or a life event — it is best to consult as early as possible to secure your preferred surgical window.
